Keeping a low profile in the past two years, Van Fan seems to have all but disappeared from the Taiwan music scene, but he's back now with his new compilation album Wu Le Bu Zuo. Though it feels like Van has been away for a while, in reality he has been around all along, developing his music and exploring different venues of performance. Since wrapping up his 2006 album, Van has appeared in a television drama and a stage musical, and in the summer of 2008, he's traveling to the silver screen with Cape No. 7. Van's debut film co-starring Tanaka Chie, Atari Kousuke, and Shino Lin, Cape No. 7 recently opened the 10th Taipei Film Festival to much buzz, and went on to win the festival's Grand Prize.
The title song Wu Le Bu Zuo off Van's new album is the theme song for Cape No. 7. This fun and lyrical rock ballad was especially written to capture the summer mood and musical dreams of the film. Other than Wu Le Bu Zuo, Van's two-CD compilation has four more new tracks plus 24 of his previous hits, including "Let Free" and of course the Mandarin version of I Believe, the song that first shot Van to stardom.
